Documentation Matters: 2 Documentation Tricks to Make Compliance Easy

Document Templates

Common wisdom suggests that one of the keys to productivity is to write things down: not so you remember, but so you have the luxury to forget. When you write things down, you free up mental bandwidth that would otherwise be used trying to remember for more important asks, while not losing the information because you then have it written down.

When approaching documentation, you can draw on the same principle: a little preparation in the short term to lay out what’s important can go a long way toward allowing you the headspace to focus on your patients instead. Documentation Templates are one of the quickest and most efficient ways to lay out important but repetitive information ahead of time.

Particularly when dealing with initial evaluations, arguably the most time consuming of note types, document templates can be used to apply a set of common parameters—for example, required sections or normal measurements when dealing with a particular injury—to any note, where you then just fill in the patient specific information.

TheraOffice ships with over 35 templates by default, designed by physical therapists to capture some of the most common injuries and treatment plans. But the customization options here are endless!

Keep Treatment Times Clean with Combo Treatments

When it comes to treating patients in the real world, sometimes care can be complex—and it is often difficult to capture the complexities of a 4 dimensional world within a 2 dimensional medical record. But, as we all know, accuracy in those records matters.

Enter Combo treatments in TheraOffice Documentation: this feature is used when two or more treatments are performed in unison. This is useful in a lot of treatment situations, for example, if Patient Education were performed while simultaneously stretching the patient. In that instance, both treatments were performed at the same time, so the combo option allows for providers to reflect that within documentation, while still charging for both treatments but not impacting treatment time.

Using this feature is very simple and only requires one additional click within the treatments section of documentation.

If one treatment is performed alongside another, simply click on the Status section and change the status to Combo

Since Combo was selected for the prayer stretch, those minutes will be subtracted from the timed codes, but the billing units will still be charged normally.
