Documentation customization plays a critical role when it comes to maximizing the benefits of TheraOffice. Whether providers make basic customizations like adding common phrases and custom dropdowns or creating new treatments and protocols, every small change makes the software a little better for that specific end-user.

After learning the software and becoming proficient with it, Marlene decided that the next best step was to create a low vision document type. This meant that in addition to utilizing the regular occupational therapy document type, she would also have a specific one to use for low vision patients. Marlene and Nilima, Co-Founders of Theia OT, collaborated to make a document type that would serve this particular purpose.

It is important to note that Marlene and Nilima mentioned that they have slightly different ways of documenting. They each have certain preferences, administer specific tests, etc. The document type was built using their expertise, but also allows for new low vision OTs that are referred to TheraOffice through Theia OT to have a solid foundation that they can further tweak to really make the document type their own.

Some special sections that were added to the low vision document type include visual acuity, visual field, safety during ADLs, awareness of resources, and a spot to record scores from the SRAFVP and R-SRAFVP tests. These are only a few of the unique sections that were added to make the lives of low vision OTs easier, at least when it comes to documentation!

The best part about all of this? New low vision OT clinics that are referred to TheraOffice through Theia OT will receive the original OT document type with the low vision template AND the low vision document type as well as a handful of treatments that Marlene created. This will give you a running start when it comes to documentation and perhaps will allow you to focus your efficiencies elsewhere. For example, low vision OTs will be able to spend more time with their patient and less time in front of the computer. This is a huge perk of having a documentation system that provides a seamless workflow. Additionally, new clinic owners can spend more time on marketing efforts and gaining referral sources as opposed to pouring hours and hours into their documentation.

At the end of the day, everyone is very proud of the Theia OT and TheraOffice efforts to establish a system that gives new low vision OTs a leg up when starting their businesses.

As Dan Morrill, PT, DPT, CEO/Co-Founder of TheraOffice, stated:

“We love their passion and initiative for developing a specific documentation template to improve low vision documentation efficiency. More importantly, we are excited that this partnership fills a gap in the occupational therapy industry.”
